While You Were Sleeping is a film (romantic comedy, 1995) starring Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman, Peter Gallagher, Peter Boyle, Jack Warden, Glynis Johns, Micole Mercurio, Jason Bernard, Michael Rispoli, and Monica Keena. It was directed by John Turtletaub from a script by Daniel G. Sullivan and Frederic Lebow.
Bullock plays Lucy, a lonely Chicago subway attendant. The highlight of her days is selling a token to a handsome commuter, played by Peter Gallagher. Working on Christmas day, Lucy witnesses her handsome commuter being mugged and pushed onto the tracks, and she rescues him from an oncoming train. He falls into a coma. At the hospital, Lucy is overheard by a nurse as she says to herself, "I was gonna marry that man"; the nurse tells the man's family that Lucy is his fiancee. At first Lucy is too caught up in the madness of everyone's panic to tell the truth. An orphan with few friends, she becomes so enamoured of the man's family and their unconditional love for her, that she cannot bring herself to reveal the truth. In the meantime she falls in love with the sleeping man's brother.
