Whip Rush is a side-scrolling space shooter released in 1990 by Telenet Japan for the Sega Mega Drive System and subsequently for its American counterpart, the Sega Genesis. It came into the video game scene at a time when this genre was immensely popular.
Story
In the year 2222 AD, three exploratory spaceships departed our overpopulated solar system. The ships were assumed lost after 5 years. Their last transmission came from the planet Voltegeus. An alien vessel materialized in the vicinity of Mars.Gameplay
Whip Rush's gameplay style was very similar to R-Type. You fire your weapon and earn the pods which follow your plane around. You can get new weapons which can be maxed out 3 times. The game likely shared the same software engine as Gaiares from the same development team, but the content was much more shallow in comparison.Region
Despite having different covers when sold in the US and Japan, the game was identical. In both regions, PAL and NTSC the hardware would both display English.Screenshots
