William Hepburn Russell: born, January 31, 1812 in Burlington, Vermont - died, September 10, 1872 in Palmyra, Missouri, Alexander Majors, and William B. Waddel are often credited as the founders, owners, and operators of the Pony Express. Some credit the original supervisor, Benjamin Franklin Ficklin with the idea.
