Williams Street

Encyclopedia : W : WI : WIL : Williams Street

Williams Street is a division of Cartoon Network, which is owned by Turner Broadcasting, an operational unit of Time Warner. The studio produces animated series. These shows air on Cartoon Network as part of the Adult Swim block of programming, itself produced and programmed by Williams Street. Keith Crofford oversees operations for the studio building.

Williams Street also produces and programs Cartoon Network's Toonami and Miguzi blocks. They also produced the now defunct Saturday Video Entertainment System (or SVES) block.

The name originates from the location of the studios (which double as the home office for Adult Swim) on Williams Street in Atlanta, Georgia, in proximity to the current offices of Ted Turner-founded WTBS, CNN, and the Cartoon Network itself.

The company's original name was Ghost Planet Industries, but the name was changed after they started producing other, non-Space Ghost related shows. Their logo to this day is a gray-on-white image of the Ghost Planet Industries building where Space Ghost supposedly taped his Space Ghost Coast to Coast talk show (in actuality, the building seen is on Williams Street in midtown Atlanta, directly across the Downtown Connector from TBS' corporate headquarters); the audio clip used in this logo bumper was lifted from actor Jack Webb's production company Mark VII Productions where a hammer is hitting a stamp to produce the "Mark VII Productions" logo.

Series

It should also be noted that Williams Street also partnered with Production I.G. to produce the "first Toonami original series," IGPX
