The star was discovered using astrophotography by German astronomer Max Wolf in 1918. Its closest neighbor is Ross 128, 1.16 pc or 3.79 ly away.
Wolf 359 was also a series of Babylon 5 and Star Trek fan conventions that ran in England between 1995 to 2003.
In fiction
- Wolf 359 is also the name of an episode of The Outer Limits television show, originally broadcast 7 November 1964.
- Wolf 359 is an industrial and mining colony in the computer game Frontier: Elite 2.
- In the Star Trek fictional universe, the Battle of Wolf 359 is a pivotal confrontation between the United Federation of Planets and the Borg in 2367.
- Wolf 359 is mentioned in the British version of Invaders from Mars (1953).
