The Womens' Affairs advisor to the Chief of Staff is a female officer in the Israel Defense Forces, in-charge of promoting freedom of opportunities for women soldiers so as to better develop their abilities and talents in the military, and to provide them with a functional, suitable and diverse environment, safe from and free of discrimination.
The Womens' Affairs advisory body dates back to the Womens’ Corps, founded in 1948 and dismantled in 2001. In 1949, it was decided to create the Chief Womens’ Corps Inspector (Colonel Shoshanna Werner) who will advise on the issues of Women soldiers’ service, and who will also be responsible for disciplinary issues and the training base for the Womens’ Corps. Later, the designation was changed into Chief Womens’ Corps Officer, and a headquarters command was created to be headed by her: the Chief Womens’ Officer Command.
On September 1, 2001, the then Chief Womens’ Corps Officer, Brigadier-General Suzy Yogev, initiated the founding of the Womens' Affairs advisor position, the dismantling of the Chief Womens’ Officer Command, and transferring the authority of caring for individual women soldiers’ problems to respective commanders, and placing the authority for the women soldiers training base to GOC Army Headquarters.
As of 2006, the position is being held by Brigadier-General Deborah Hasid who is expected to be replaced by Colonel Yehudit Grisaro.
