Wonder Woman is the first theatrical movie based on the DC comic book character Wonder Woman. The movie is being written and directed by Joss Whedon, and produced by Joel Silver (the producer of The Matrix films) and Leonard Goldberg.
As of June 2006, the film has no release date and no casting has been done. Whedon has expressed a strong preference for a young unknown, rather than an established star, to take on the title role. In the director's commentary for Serenity, he strongly hints that Morena Baccarin is being considered.
Project history
The development of this movie began in late 2001. Sandra Bullock was signed on to be Wonder Woman. Production soon fell apart when Bullock became unhappy with the way the movie was going and pulled out. The movie would be in limbo for the next 4 years with various casting rumors, directors, and different script drafts. This all stopped in early 2005 when Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly and Serenity, signed on as director. Joss Whedon has indicated production is slowly moving forward, though he may make the movie Goners first. In early May 2006, Whedon delivered his first completed draft of the script to Joel Silver and the other producers.
