Woodchester

Woodchester is a Gloucestershire village in the Nailsworth Valley, a valley in the South Cotswolds in England, running southwards from Stroud along the A46 road to Nailsworth. Woodchester is roughly at the mid-point, approximately two miles south of Stroud. It is sub-divided into North and South Woodchester, with a beauutiful side valley in between the two settlements. There are pubs and post offices with a shop in each half.

It is famous as the location of Woodchester Roman Villa. The village's parish church of St Mary's was designed by Samuel Sanders Teulon. The nearby Woodchester Mansion is regularly open to the public (follow link for details) and stands in a beautiful landscaped valley. The valley is now owned by the National Trust and open daily. There are three waymarked walks there. The car park is at Nympsfield near Coaley Peak, not Woodchester as you would think.
