X68000's MDX
Encyclopedia : X : X6 : X68 : X68000's MDX
MDX is a MIDI-like format that is designed to be played using the X68000's FM synthesizer. As the format suggests, MDX files hold the music data to be operated from the MXDRV, which apparently is the most famous music driver on the SHARP X68000. (X68000 is a local platform in Japan, it is called a "Personal Workstation".) The X68000 consists of two sound chips:
* A 4-operator FM synthesis chip which is identified to be a "YAMAHA(tm) YM-2151(OPM)" * A single ADPCM chip "OKI MSM6258" ... (1 voice/4bit/3.9/5.2/7.8/10.4/15.6kHz).
