The Gundam Shenlong is a gundam type mobile suit in the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.
When the five scientists who designed the XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero in AC 180 went their separate ways, each of them took copies of the plans for their original Gundam design. Master O, who went into hiding in the L5 colonies, then went on to design and build his own Gundam based on their original plans. With the support and blessing of the powerful Long clan, Master O built the XXXG-01S Shenlong Gundam in anticipation of Operation Meteor. However, the Shenlong's intended pilot, Meilan Long, was killed during an encounter with United Earth Sphere Alliance and OZ forces in AC 194. Her betrothed, Wufei Chang, took her place as the Shenlong's pilot. Not wanting to use the Gundam as a tool for genocide, Wufei refused to take part in Operation Meteor's planned colony drop, instead taking his Gundam to Earth to fight OZ's forces directly in a bid for revenge. 'Shen-Long' roughly translates to 'God-Dragon' in Chinese, and means "Mystic Dragon" or "Mighty Dragon", "Shen" being both an adjective and noun.
The Shenlong is built from the super-strong Gundanium alloy, although it is the most lightly armored compared to other Gundams. This is due to the Shenlong's specialization as a close-combat machine. In addition to the standard head-mounted vulcan guns, the Shenlong is equipped with a beam glaive (a variation of the Japanese naginata, or long-handled sword) and a shield that can also be used for offensive purposes, mainly by being thrown at enemy mobile suits. However, the most powerful weapon in the Shenlong's arsenal is the Dragon Fang mounted on its extendable right arm. Dual plasma flamethrowers mounted on the dragon fang are capable of melting enemy armor with ease.
Long Meilan believed that she was a descendant of Nataku, a legendary Chinese war god. She would often call herself by that name, and when she died, Wufei promised to honor her memory. Since then, he has referred to the Shenlong Gundam (and its upgraded variant, the Altron) as "Nataku".

Upgrade
Shenlong was overwhelmed by OZ's Taurus Mobile suits and ran out of power. Along with the remains of Gundam Deathscythe it was taken to the lunar base, where the five Gundam scientists forced to work there discreetly rebuilt and upgraded it into the XXXG-01S2 Altron Gundam.External links
