Xubuntu (IPA: /ˈzubuntu/) is a derivative of the Ubuntu open source operating system, using the Xfce desktop environment. Xubuntu is intended for use on less-powerful computers, and uses mostly GTK+ 2 applications.
Xubuntu was originally rumored to release alongside Breezy Badger (5.10) versions of the Ubuntu line, but an official release date was not decided upon. The first official Xubuntu release was released alongside the Ubuntu 6.06 line (including Kubuntu, and Edubuntu) code named Dapper Drake, on June 1, 2006.

A similar project to Xubuntu is Ubuntu Lite. It also aims to have a lightweight desktop, but completes the task with IceWM as opposed to Xfce.See also
