Yakky Doodle

Encyclopedia : Y : YA : YAK : Yakky Doodle

Yakky Doodle (voiced by Jimmy Weldon), is a fictional character created by Hanna-Barbera Productions, an anthropomorphic duck who lives with his best friend Chopper the dog.

Yakky's name is an obvious takeoff of Yankee Doodle. Chopper, a bulldog, has stereotypically huge jaws (or "chops"). Yakky's voice characterization resembles that of Donald Duck, perhaps "more so".

Yakky is always one to run into danger when it's most expected, usually in the form of the show's main antagonist, Fibber Fox. Chopper defends his diminutive friend ("Little Buddy") fiercely, and is always ready to pound the fox or any other enemy into oblivion if necessary. Yakky's tendency to put himself in great danger never draws a rebuke from Chopper, who presumably enjoys his protective role.

Yakky debuted in his own segment of The Yogi Bear Show in 1961. Yakky also later appeared on Laff-a-Lympics.

In a darkly satirical moment, Yakky Doodle made a cameo on an episode of , where he wished to have his name changed but instead received a court-ordered chemical castration.

One unknown fact about him is that in Germany, he was on The Huckleberry Hound Show to replace Yogi Bear.
