Yamagata (γγΎγγ Yamagata) (first name unknown) is a fictional character in the hit anime movie and manga, Akira.
Basic information
Yamagata is one of the strongest members of Kaneda's gang. He often criticizes Tetsuo and this leads to some hard feelings which eventually determine his fate.
Role in the story
Yamagata really isn't an important character. He was probably put in the manga and anime for dramatic reasons, as he dies at the hands of Tetsuo. In the manga, it was in a warehouse, where Tetsuo killed several members of rival bike gangs (since in the manga, he has become head of the Clown gang). In the anime, it was a bar, where Tetsuo hits him with a fridge then brutally murders him. Kai, who was there, escaped. Yamagata's bike was demolished by Kaneda after his death in respect, not out of anger. At the end of the manga, images of Yamagata and Tetsuo are seen by Kaneda as he rides back into Neo-Tokyo.
