Yarmouth Airport is located adjacent to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada and began as a World War II Royal Air Force training base.
In 1936 the Department of National Defence selected the Yarmouth Airport site as a base for Maritime patrol aircraft. Yarmouth Airport was transferred from Transport Canada to the Yarmouth Airport Commission Association on October 1, 1997. The Commission is a non-profit organisation and is governed by a board of volunteer directors. Since taking ownership of the airport, the Commission has concentrated its efforts to enhance services and investing capital to secure the future of the airport.
Yarmouth Airport facilities include a modern airport terminal building and combined services building which houses a maintenance garage and vehicles used for clearing runways. The airport has two runways, two taxiways, separate parking aprons for both commercial and general aviation, also a Category I Instrument Landing System and other state of the art navigational systems. The airport property has 3.16 km² (1.2 mi²) of easily accessible, industrial real estate. Customs and Immigration are available on the site when needed.
