Yashwantrao Chavan was born in the village of Devrashtre in Karad Taluka of Satara District of Maharashtra State of India. He was from poor kunbi family. From very humble beginnings, he rose to meteoric heights. Apart from being the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra, he occupied the high positions of Defence Minister, Home Minister, Finance Minister, Foreign Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister of India. Yashwantrao Chavan was commonly known as Chavan saheb. His oratory and literatue skills kept him different than his contemporary leaders. A very mild thought visionary CM of maharashtra, probably the best one Maharashtra has ever seen. There were differences on his later views of Sanyukta Maharashtra as under influence of Nehru he almost accpeted bilingual state of Maharashtra. A rebellion, after Indiras defeat in general elections in 1977, led him to Dy PM. But the dream of Marathi man to be PM still remains blurred.
