Yau Ma Tei (MTR)
Encyclopedia : Y : YA : YAU : Yau Ma Tei (MTR)
Yau Ma Tei (Chinese: 油麻地, Jyutping: jau4 ma4 dei6, colloquially jau4 ma4 dei2; pinyin: Yóumádì), formerly named Waterloo after Waterloo Road, is an MTR station located in Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon. It is the western terminus of the Kwun Tong Line, and is also located on the Tsuen Wan Line.
Yau Ma Tei is an interchange station, yet it is used less frequently for this purpose than nearby Mong Kok station since the platforms are not designed for cross-platform interchange. The Kwun Tong Line platforms are thus beneficial mostly to local travellers. This station is used by many students during commuting hours, since it is in the vicinity of many large schools.
The station's livery colour is grey, with red, white, and blue stripes. The stripes, however, are being removed as part of current renovation works as of October 2005. Helvetica, the original typeface used in station name signs, is also being replaced by Myriad under the scheme.
