Yazid II
Encyclopedia : Y : YA : YAZ : Yazid II
Yazid bin Abd al-Malik or Yazid II (687 - 724) (Arabic: يزيد بن عبد الملك) was an Umayyad caliph who ruled from 720 until his death in 724.
Yazid's reign was heavily smitten with internal and external conflicts. Numerous civil wars began to break out in different parts of the empire such as Spain, Africa and in the east. The heavy handed response by the Umayyad ruler did not help matters, and anti-Umayyad groups began to gain power among the disaffected. This would allow groups such as the Abbasids to begin building a power base that they would later use to topple the Umayyads in CE 750.
Yazid II would die in 724 of tuberculosis. He was succeeded by his brother Hisham.
