Yi-dam

A yi-dam is a tantric deity, representing a Buddha. By meditation on the yidam, the tantra practitioner attempts to transform him/herself into a Buddha. This practice is mainly preserved in Tibetan Buddhism. Many different of these tantric deities exist, to suit the specific practitioners. Some commonly known yidams are: Avalokiteshvara, Tara, Manjushri, Kalachakra, Yamantaka, Guhyasamaya, Hevajra and many more.
