Yield (album)
Encyclopedia : Y : YI : YIE : Yield (album)
Yield is Pearl Jam's fifth album, released on February 3, 1998. Some observers suggest that members had become frustrated with Vedder's control of the creation process and that this album was a true collaboration between all members of the group. Overall, Yield resembles the straight-ahead rock approach of the band's early work, though critics of the album assert that it is artistically the group's weakest album. Regardless, Yield outsold its idiosyncratic predecessor No Code and fared well with fans. Yield sold 358,000 copies during its first week of release.
The album was inspired by Daniel Quinn's novel Ishmael.

- "Given to Fly" heavily borrows the main guitar riff and the vocal melody from Led Zeppelin's "Going To California."
- The intro of "Push Me, Pull Me" contains a sample of "Happy When I'm Crying," a song written by Jack Irons and released on Pearl Jam's 1997 fan club Christmas single.
- "MFC" stands for "mini fast car." Eddie was inspired by the small cars in Rome.
- "Brain of J." dates back to at least 1995. It was played live twice in November of that year.
