Yoko Suzuki is a video game character appearing in the Resident Evil series. Yoko is one of the main characters in Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil Outbreak File #2.
Background
"As the result of her studies, Yoko is extremely knowledgeable about computers. She has a quiet, reserved personality, but her strength of her inquisitive mind emerges with a surprising toughness. Once she gets focused on something, it's hard to distract her attention."A mysterious young woman, Yoko claims to be a student of Raccoon City's prestigious local university. An expert with computers, Yoko is a very quiet and reserved person, although she is prone to bouts of uncharacteristic bravery when it is needed the most. She has a highly inquisitive mind and once focused on something, she will relentlessly pursue her goal until it is achieved. In her spare time, she collects various kinds of gadgetry and is a voracious reader.
Yoko was originally employed, presumably as a computer technician, in William Birkin's laboratory underneath Raccoon City (as evidenced in the "Below Freezing Point" scenario; all the NPCs recognize Yoko, she knows the lab's layout automatically upon entry to the facility, and Monica steals her keycard to gain access to the upper floors). She was also one of the subjects who donated cells to the project that would create the Tyrant. Subsequently, Yoko was operated upon by an Umbrella researcher named Greg Mura, to suppress her memories of the experiment.
Items
Personal Item
Knapsack: In addition to the usual four item, Yoko can carry another four items in her Knapsack. To store items in her Knapsack, select the item, choose the "Combine" command, then select the Knapsack to store the item. Items in the Knapsack cannot be used. To make stored items usable again, move then into Yoko's main inventory. Select the item in the Knapsack and choose "Switch" from the command list. Then select an item or open slot in the main inventory in which to move the item. Items can also be stored directly into the Knapsack during procurement simply by highlighting the Knapsack icon and pressing the action button.Extra Item
Charm: Yoko (or anyone else in possession of this item) gains a few additional abilities. Enemies are prevented from slaying the Charm holder with instant death attacks, althougth severe damage is still incurred. Plus, viral infection rises at 75% of the character's normal infection rate. For these reasons, AIPC Yoko does not readily relinquish her favorite Charm.Special Actions
Escape
Yoko spins and scampers away. This causes Yoko to enter a short-lived invulnerability window, allowing her to avoid harm and position herself to run away; by quick-turning immediately before the use of the Escape move, expert Yoko players can use this ability to crawl "through" an oncoming enemy.Push Away
Instead of a shoulder tackle, Yoko's unarmed attack is a double-armed push aimed at a humanoid enemy's face. It provides more knockback than a standard unarmed attack.Costumes

Raccoon City Outbreak
\"Below Freezing Point\" Scenario
Yoko and the others enter the lab from Resident Evil 2 (sometime before Leon and Claire do). The Lab is frozen and the survivors had to unfreeze it to activate the turn-table. The Ivys and Lickers are not present but instead there are Hunters. An Umbrella employee, Monica who confronts Yoko, and threatens to kill her spares her but takes her ID card, and tries to steal a G-Embryo sample and is then attacked by a giant moth that also appears on the lab level (there is a question as to whether she was in fact attacked by William Birkin, but this is unlikely given the timing of the scenario). During the attack, the G-Embryo is freed and implants itself inside Monica. Elsewhere on the level Yoko gets a magnum from an unnamed researcher before he loses consciousness. Later, the unnamed researcher is identified as Carter. Yoko always appears in this level, but if the player is using a character other than Yoko, she aids the player, only to reappear later as a zombie regardless of his/her actions.\"Decisions, Decisions\" Scenario
Yoko makes it into the University where she studies. She often says things such as "This place looks familiar." By collecting the P-Base, V-Poison, and T-Blood she is able to conjure a cure to the T-virus known as Daylight. She is then confronted by Greg Muller and he mentions an "accident," saying that she "would have wanted her memories erased." He is then killed by Nicholai GinovaefFate
There are several endings of the game. Since most Resident Evil games count the good endings, it is safe to assume that it is the same case here and that Yoko survived.Escaping With Daylight
The best ending in File #1, Yoko is cured of the T-Virus, escaping Raccoon City with Daylight shortly before the government's bombing run.Escaping Without Daylight
Though she is cured of the T-Virus, Yoko is unable to recover a sample of the vaccine before the city is destroyed.Escaping Uncured
Yoko boards the Helicopter without using the vaccine, though she has a sample of it. Shortly before the city is annihilated, she succumbs to the effects of the virus, and the helicopter crashes in the mountains. No Escape
The serum was never found, and Alyssa and Yoko remain in the University. With help from Yoko, Alyssa uploads information of Umbrella's illicit activities to the internet. Secure in the knowledge that Umbrella would not get away with their actions, the pair calmly waits as the missiles begin to approach.End of the Road
Run Like the Linda
Yoko and her fellow survivors defeat the Nyx and rescue Linda, driving out of the city seconds ahead of the explosion that destroys it. As Yoko watches the mushroom cloud, the last of her repressed memories flood back, and she knows what she must now do. She and Linda will go on to testify against Umbrella in open court. Yoko believes that they're really making some progress.Up and Away with Linda
Yoko and Linda reach the helicopter before takeoff, and watch as the city is destroyed. They later come forward with damning evidence about Umbrella's activities.Bad Truck Ending
Failing to retrieve Linda, Yoko escapes on her own after taking down NYX.Bad Helicopter Ending
Yoko does not rescue Linda, and she escapes on the helicopter.Trivia
- If Yoko is not a PC or AIPC during the "Below Freezing Point" scenario, she will be found dead and zombified somewhere in the lab complex.
- Due to her timid nature and lack of experience with firearms, Kevin Ryman taught Yoko how to use a handgun. Such evidence can be spotted in Resident Evil Outbreak File #2, during the zombie raid outside the Raccoon police station. Press the ad-lib button while reloading beside Kevin. She will ask him if she is preforming the process correctly.
- Yoko's base cells were used for the Thanatos project. Greg Mura eventually deleted that from her memory via brain surgery.
- Monica and Yoko were once friends, of a sort. Thus, Monica did not kill Yoko ruthlessly in the "Below Freezing Point" scenario.
- Yoko wears glasses most of the time, although she wears contact lenses during the game.
- Yoko is the slowest-moving character in the Outbreak games, and she has the lowest amount of health. She also has the lowest rate of fire with pistols. She's a well-liked and frequently-used character, however, because of her knapsack, which allows her to carry twice as many items as anyone else. Yoko's Escape move is also very useful if one can get used to its idiosyncrasies, and her Buddhist Charm special item in File #2 can be a big help on higher difficulties. (For example, the Charm prevents the Titan from instantly killing Yoko.)
- Does not like Jim Chapman because of his attitude. In Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 AIPC Yoko will not help Jim. But, ironically, he likes her.
- Yoko is rumored to have a crush on Kevin after he offered his handkerchief to clean her face.
- Is usually voted as the most "homely" female character in the Resident Evil series on fansites and video game message boards. Capcom probably gave her an "average" (uncute, not sexy but bland) look to make the storyline realistic. However, this reference isn't solely on Yoko. Most of the characters weren't made attractive on purpose.
- Is introduced as an amnesiac character.
- Yoko shares the same voice actress as Claire Redfield: Alyson Court.
- Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 suggests Yoko is claustrophobic. Her ad-lib claims that she's ready to hyperventilate inside the basement of the Raccoon City Subway during the "Underbelly" scenario.
- Alyssa Ashcroft nicknamed her "kiddo" because Yoko is the youngest of all eight characters in the game.
- Her name means "child of the ocean and sun" in Japanese.
