You Can Dance
Encyclopedia : Y : YO : YOU : You Can Dance
You Can Dance is the first EP and fifth recording by singer Madonna, released in 1987 (see 1987 in music). The album contains remixes of tracks from her first three albums, the first six of which were segued together.
Album information
After Janet Jackson's Control: The Remixes (unreleased in the US) established the remix album as a separate piece of work in its own right, You Can Dance went one further and made the concept commercially viable. Although it was her only album to fail to reach the top ten in the United States during her 80s heyday, it sold well (1,900,000 copies in the US), despite having no singles to promote it. Its success also inspired other artists such as Paula Abdul, Bobby Brown, and Milli Vanilli to release remix albums. In Japan, the album's one new song "Spotlight" (left over from the True Blue recording sessions) was released as a single, and made the top ten. You Can Dance continued Madonna's string of platinum-selling albums.
