Ysgol Bryn Elian

Ysgol Bryn Elian is a high school on Llanelian Road in Old Colwyn. Along with Eirias High School and Coleg Llandrillo Cymru (which is sixth-form-level only) it serves the state secondary education sector in the Colwyn Bay area.
Children from Old Colwyn usually go to Bryn Elian as its catchment area is the east side of Eirias Park but the proximity of Eirias and Bryn Elian means that some parents (in the catchment area or within two miles of both schools) have a choice of where to send their children.

The previous headmaster, Jim Whippe, was involved in various controversies, including suspending a pupil for coming to school with a short hair style and alledegly assaulting a news reporter at the school, before the school governors forced him to leave his post following legal action. His replacement, Stephen Matthews is still the headmaster to this day.
