Yuca (music)

Encyclopedia : Y : YU : YUC : Yuca (music)

This page is about Rock and Metal music; for the plant see Cassava.
Yuca or Yuka has been used as a semi disrespectful term referring to Metal and Rock music derivations and their followers (called "Yuqueros"). The term is used in Latin American countries, thought most popularly in Venezuela.

The origins or relationship between the term and the Cassava plant are unknown.

Originally used as a fully disrespectful term, which was largely related to the image of a unwashed, pierced or tattooed person, it has in recent years been accepted by the Rock community as a simple defining term and is therefore no longer considered disrespectful, meaning that when it is used towards a person who listens to this type of music, he or she will most likely not react in any special way, the term is nevertheless used by persons outside this social group when referring to the stereotypical Rocker mentioned earlier; This persons, as a difference from Rockers do consider it disrespectful to this very day.
