Yunnan Camellia

Camellia reticulata(Synonym: C. heterophylla.[link])is a loosely-branched, lanky shrub or tree , which can grow up to 50 feet or 15 metres in height.[The Hungington:The Camellia Garden]

The plant is native to Yunnan Province in southern China and is the emblem of that province. It has been cultivated for a long history both for the tea oil and for its ornamental value. [The Week at the Garden: Camellia Fruit (21 February 2005)]

Characteristic

Its flowers are soft-pink to deep-pink with 5-11 petals,6-10cm in diameter. The flowers are perulate, terminal or axillary.[link] The species flowers in January to March in south-east China. >[Camellia reticulata Lindl.]

The leaves are elliptic to oblong-elliptic. They are 5-11 long,and 4-5.5cm wide. The venation is obscure.>[Camellia reticulata Lindl.]
