Yuseong-gu (Daejeon)

Yuseong-gu (유성구) is known for hi-tech industries, Daejeon Expo '93, and Yuseong Special Tourism District. Since the time of Baekje Kingdom (백제) Yuseong was known for its natural springs and spas. From then on, tourism developed resulting of Yuseong Special Tourism District. Majority of the hotels are situated in this spot, and it is one of the comercial centers for Daejeon Metropolitan City. Yuseong-gu is also very famous for its hi-tech industries since the time of Chung-Hee Park (박정희). This president decided to place the hi-tech industries all in Yuseong area to prevent centralization in Seoul. Because of these industries, Expo '93 was held here. This area still grows today. Yuseong-gu also takes pride in its hills and large parks and recreational areas. Unlike other cities, Yuseong-gu apartment complexes are designed to coexist with surrounding mountains and nature. All these factors has made Yuseong-gu one of the most desirable place to live. Because of this, in 2005 Yuseong-gu was the area with 2nd largest population increase (The first was Gangnam-gu).
