Encyclopedia : Y : YV : YVA : Yvan Goll

Yvan Goll (Saint-Dié, March 29, 18911950) was a French-German poet who was perfectly bilingual and wrote in both French and German. He had close ties both to the German expressionism and to the French surrealism.

Due to his pacifism, he escaped to Switzerland to avoid conscription into the army at the outbreak of World War I (he was a German citizen). He wrote many war poems, the most famous being "Requiem for the Dead of Europe".
