Yvonne Kenny

Yvonne Kenny AM (born 25 November, 1950, Sydney, New South Wales), is an Australian opera singer, particularly associated with the works of Handel.
She has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Sydney, but chose singing as her professional career.
She provided the voice for the title role in the TV mini-series Melba, about the great Australian soprano Dame Nellie Melba.
Her 1994 recording 'Simple Gifts' was the first Australian produced classical album to go gold, staying in the ARIA Classical Top 20 for over 2 years.
She was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Music by University of Sydney in June 1999.
Yvonne Kenny sang the Olympic Hymn at the Closing Ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
