-->Zülfü Livaneli is a popular Turkish folk musician who was politically involved for the last several decades of the 20th century for left-wing causes.
Livaneli has been active as a song writer, film director, newspaper columnist, and composer for film scores. He is most well-known for his fusion of Turkish folk with contemporary music, much in the same way as Pete Seeger and his contemporaries have in the Unites States. His collaborations with Mikis Theodorakis of Greece has been noted as a gesture of bringing together the two countries.
