Zanzibari rupee

The rupee was the currency of Zanzibar from ca. 1908 to December 31, 1935. It was subdivided into 100 cents. The rupee replaced the Indian rupee at par and remained equal to it. The rupee was replaced by the East African shilling at the exchange rate of the time, which was 1.5 East African shillings = 1 Zanzibari rupee = 0.075 British Pound.
Little is known about this currency. Banknotes were issued by the government of Zanzibar in the values of Rs. 1, Rs. 5, Rs. 10, Rs. 20, Rs. 50, Rs. 100, and Rs. 500; coins in 1 cent, 10 cents, and 20 cents. All of them are very rare. The Standard Catalog of World Paper Money reported that the Spink auction house sold a 1916 Rs. 100 note in fine to very fine condition for U.S. $7360[#endnote_spink].
