This oblast is an important part of Ukraine's industry and agriculture.
Geography
The area of the province is 27,200 km²; its population (as of 2004-05-01) is 1.9 million.Important cities include:

History
From the 15th century to the 18th century, the northern parts of the province belonged to the Zaporizhian Sich - a self-governed military republic of the Ukrainian Kozaks.Subdivisions
