Storyline
Zarbon is a handsome alien with light blue skin and long green braided hair. He's also fond of wearing jewelry and a cape to go along with his traditional alien clothing garb and is considered to be quite attractive and a lover of beauty. Zarbon is seen as one of Freeza's top two henchmen, the other being Dodoria. Within Freeza's majestic ship, they attend to matters at hand. The most recent news is the power that the saiyans are gaining. Zarbon warns Freeza of the saiyan threat and advises him that it would be smart to eradicate them before they become a threat to his power. Freeza agrees, commenting that in order to achieve this, he would have to destroy the saiyan planet. Dodoria is sent to eradicate Bardock and his team of fighters. He is successful in killing most of the team but carelessly leaves Bardock alive after delivering one heavily powerful mouth blast at him. Bardock is so battered and beaten, he is left limping after Dodoria's onslaught. Dodoria returns to Freeza and Zarbon tells him of his recklessness. Freeza, whom apparently has decided to destroy the entire saiyan race, decides to put the plan into motion. He orders Zarbon to open the hatch and allow him to extend over the ship. Zarbon complies to his master's orders and allows Freeza to mercilessly eradicate the saiyan planet, along with Bardock in the midst.
Zarbon accompanies his master Freeza and his comrade in battle, Dodoria, to the planet of Namek in search of the Namekian dragonballs. Freeza's one wish is to gain immortality in order to maintain his dominance in the universe. Zarbon is able to help him collect most of the dragonballs alongside Dodoria by mercilessly slaughtering Namekians in order to squeeze information out of them. Unfortunately for Freeza, Vegeta shows up on planet Namek with his own desire to gain control of the dragonballs. Vegeta had openly betrayed Freeza and went to Earth when Freeza did not order him to. And on Namek, Vegeta decides to proceed with his deliberate betrayal and gain control of the dragonballs for himself. Freeza orders Cui to take out Vegeta but the mission doesn't go as planned. Vegeta's power level had increased tremendously since his battle on Earth and he is able to overcome Cui with ease. Vegeta takes the next opportunity to eliminate Dodoria when he is temporarily separated from his crew after pursuing Gohan and Kuririn. After killing Cui and Dodoria, Vegeta realizes that Zarbon is the only remaining top henchman of Freeza. Zarbon is sent to find another Namekian village but he comes face to face with Vegeta instead. Vegeta challenges Zarbon and appears to have the upper hand, blocking Zarbon's blasts and dodging all his attacks. However, after Zarbon has been pushed enough, he surprises Vegeta when he undergoes his demonic reptilian transformation. Zarbon easily dominates Vegeta with a series of brutal poundings and roundhouses. He finishes the fight with an aerial piledriver, sending Vegeta head first into the ground. Zarbon efficiently and confidently reports back to Freeza in order to relay the message of his victory. Freeza, however, is not pleased. Vegeta was able to find one of the dragonballs and hide it before being beaten. The location of the dragonball is a necessity so Freeza orders Zarbon to heal Vegeta in order to squeeze the information out of him. Zarbon goes back, locates Vegeta's battered body, and takes him to the rejuvenation chamber in Freeza's ship in order to heal him for further questioning. Upon healing, Vegeta manages to escape and steal Freeza's five dragonballs by distracting them. Freeza then orders Zarbon to go find Vegeta and bring him back, with a limit of one hour. If he were to fail his mission, he would be punished by death. Zarbon hurries out in search of Vegeta. Soon, after Vegeta is seen chasing Kuririn for his dragonball, Zarbon joins the chase. A majestic clash awaits when Zarbon and Vegeta meet face to face, this time with Kuririn and Bulma in the middle. With Kuririn and Bulma's life at stake, Zarbon and Vegeta face off until Zarbon transforms once more. Bulma is instantly attracted to Zarbon, although he pays no attention to her. However, when Zarbon transforms, she is filled with fear when seeing him shift from his beautiful figure into a hideous monster. After they resume their battle, Vegeta tells Zarbon that saiyan strength increases after every battle, so Vegeta's power level has increased substantially because of the beating he took. This enables Vegeta to overcome Zarbon by smashing his arm clean through Zarbon's stomach and right through his back. Zarbon pleas for his life before Vegeta mercilessly finishes him with a blast through the stomach and sends Zarbon to a watery grave in the Namekian sea.
Zarbon appears in the Freeza saga in many flashbacks. In one scene, he is seen when he relays a message to Freeza that King Vegeta is revolting and attacking the ship. Freeza of course kills King Vegeta and Zarbon and Dodoria bear witness to his murder. One of the more notable scenes is the way that Zarbon, Dodoria, and Freeza tease Vegeta. After Nappa, Raditz, and Vegeta return from their conquest on planet Shikk, they are met with pity rather than accommodation by Freeza and his top henchmen. Zarbon implies that he could have easily conquered that same planet in a mere day when it apparently took Vegeta three days. The three saiyans are then dismissed and Zarbon mocks Vegeta for being a monkey. Vegeta, apparently no match for him at this time, moves on and walks away, keeping his anger inside.
Similar to his brief escape in Fusion Reborn, Zarbon escapes from hell alongside Dodoria and they wreak havoc with all the other villains in the Super Android 17 Saga. However, he is presumably defeated again and sent back when the Z warriors come to face all the previously defeated foes.
Appearance
Zarbon is a handsome and effeminate warrior who values beauty and his physical appearance above all else. He dislikes his transformation due to its ugly appearance, and wears a heavily cultural garb. His long, green braided hair and his head apparel tiara and earrings are reminiscent of a high class prince. He is very vain and he considers himself to be of high standard. His light blue skin and golden eyes indicate his reptilian alien ancestry. He also wears a very long cape as well as a very cultural leg and arm-wear. Along with his choice of clothing, he wears the common armor that most of Freeza's men have, including the shoulder pads and a scouter. Also, when looking at his origin, beastly transformation, and his characteristics, he is a powerful dual dynamic of the beauty and the beast. He is, in character, the beauty and the beast personified.
Strength
Zarbon's initial power level is stated to be at 23,000 in the anime. However, when he transforms, his power increases substantially. He completely dominates Vegeta (who has a power level of 24,000 at the time) in their first battle. However, in their second encounter Vegeta has no trouble with the transformed Zarbon, and his power level is stated to have risen "close to 30,000" in the Anime (30,000 flat in the Daizenshuu) after his initial thrashing at Zarbon's hands. Therefore, Zarbon's power level in his transformed state would have to be above 25,000 but less than 30,000.
Abilities
Zarbon has the distinct ability to transform into a reptilian beast. Incorporating brute strength and ferocity, his second form is the opposite in appearance to his first form. He becomes grotesque and brutal. Upon transforming, his size increases heavily as well as his build and his skin becomes covered with noticeable scales, similar to that of a reptile. Thus, he only does this when extremely necessary since he dislikes disfiguring his image in such a grotesque manner.
Appearances in other media
Zarbon has appeared as a playable character in numerous video games, some of which include , , and Ultimate Battle 22. He is also rumored to be in .
