Encyclopedia : Z : ZO : ZOK : Zoë Keating
Zoë Keating is a Canadian-born cellist and composer based in San Francisco, California.
In her solo performances and recordings (particularly the ongoing project she calls "One Cello x 16"), she uses live electronic sampling and repetition in order to layer the sound of her cello, creating rhythmically dense musical structures.
She also served from 2002 to 2006 as first chair cellist in the cello-rock band Rasputina.[link]
Keating began playing the cello at the age of eight and attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York. She is also an Information Architect and has worked on projects for the Research Libraries Group and the Database of Recorded American Music.
