Zoot Allures
Encyclopedia : Z : ZO : ZOO : Zoot Allures
Zoot Allures is a 1976 rock album by Frank Zappa. The title track makes use of major ninth chords and lydian modalities to create surreal guitar music.
The Rykodisc compact disc release contains a different mix from the vinyl that is considered to be inferior. The CD features what Zappa fans consider to be major sound quality issues.
The title is a pun on the French expression "Zut alors!" which, though it has no direct translation, conveys mild surprise and may be approximated by "Darn it!" or by the British use of "Blimey!"
